Introduction
2 Die 4 is a song by Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo, released on 27 July 2022 as a single from her fifth studio album, Dirt Femme. A bright and euphoric dance-pop track whose bouncing beat playfully nods to the 1969 electronic instrumental “Popcorn”, the song captures the rush of meeting someone who turns out to be even better in real life than in their photos. On this page you will find the full 2 Die 4 lyrics in English, complete song details, the meaning behind the song, the official video and answers to frequently asked questions.
The Song
2 Die 4 throws the listener straight into a first meeting that goes far better than expected. The person in front of her is prettier than their photo, and Tove Lo spends the song trying to turn one night into something that lasts — hoping for a phone call, promising she will not let them down, and dragging them out at midnight to dance in headlights and make out in the rain. Its chant-like chorus, built on the hook “you’re to die for everyday”, made the song an instant fan favourite and one of the defining singles of the Dirt Femme era.
The Artists
2 Die 4 is performed by Tove Lo, who co-wrote the song with Oscar Görres, the Swedish songwriter and producer also known as OZGO. Görres, a longtime collaborator of Tove Lo, also produced the track, giving it its glossy, bouncing dance-pop sound. The pair had previously worked together on several of her records, and their chemistry is all over 2 Die 4, from the teasing verses to the explosive, repetitive chorus.
The Music Video
The official video for 2 Die 4 was released on Tove Lo's official YouTube channel as “Scene 3” of the Dirt Femme short film, the visual project that accompanied the album and presented its songs as chapters of one dramatic story. You can watch the official video on this page in the video section below the lyrics and their meaning.
The Music Label
2 Die 4 was released by Pretty Swede Records, Tove Lo's own independent record label, in partnership with mtheory. Dirt Femme was her first album released as an independent artist through her own label, giving her full creative control over the music and its visuals, and 2 Die 4 arrived as one of the album's lead singles in the summer of 2022.

2 Die 4 Lyrics in English
You don’t look like in your photo
You’re prettier than that
Now i kinda wish that you said so
Would’ve put in more effort
Man, I hope you call me, Call me
’cause i know i won’t let you down
And i hope you believe, Believe
I’ll be here for you, Here for you
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
Drag you out at midnight
To dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
When i think about you
The world go less blue
Let’s do it over again
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
Drag you out at midnight
To dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
When i think about you
The world go less blue
Let’s do it over again
I’ll go on all your adventures
If you wanna find yourself
I’ve been to so many places
But i’ve never felt better
Man, I hope you call me, Call me
’cause i know i won’t let you down
Man, I hope you believe this
I’ll be here for you, Here for you
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
Drag you out at midnight
To dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
When i think about you
The world go less blue
Let’s do it over again
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
Drag you out at midnight
To dance in headlights
And making out in the rain
Look alive and come with me
You’re to die for everyday
When i think about you
The world go less blue
Let’s do it over again (It works)
You’re to die for everyday
Day-Day-Day-Day-Day-Day-Day-Day-Day
Lyrics Meaning
2 Die 4 is about the dizzy first stage of falling for someone. The song opens with a small, funny disappointment turned upside down: the person she meets is not worse than their photo, but prettier, and she wishes she had dressed up more for the occasion. From there, everything is urgency and promises — hoping the phone rings, swearing she will not let them down, and wanting to repeat the night again and again. The line “when I think about you, the world goes less blue” is the heart of the song: simply thinking about this person makes her world brighter, which is why she calls them someone to die for, every single day.
