Introduction

On this page you will find the complete Sweet Nothing lyrics in English, the full song details, the lyrics meaning and the official lyric video.
The Song
Sweet Nothing is the twelfth track on Midnights, the album Taylor Swift described as the stories of thirteen sleepless nights scattered throughout her life. Built on a gentle, lullaby-like piano melody, it is one of the calmest moments on the album. Away from the noise of fame and the demands of the music industry, the song settles into small, tender scenes — a pebble picked up on a trip to Wicklow, a poem written on the way home, and a partner humming in the kitchen. Its title plays on the phrase "sweet nothings", the soft, affectionate words lovers whisper to each other.
The Artists
Taylor Swift is one of the most successful singer-songwriters of all time, known for turning personal experiences into vivid, story-driven songs. Sweet Nothing was co-written with William Bowery, the songwriting pseudonym of her then-partner Joe Alwyn, who had previously co-written songs on her albums Folklore and Evermore. The track was produced by Swift with her long-time collaborator Jack Antonoff, whose warm, understated production lets the vocal and piano carry the song.
The Music Video
Sweet Nothing has no separate official music video. Instead, an official lyric video was released on Taylor Swift's YouTube channel along with the Midnights album, and that lyric video is embedded below on this page so you can listen and read the lyrics at the same time.
The Music Label
Sweet Nothing was released on 21 October 2022 under Republic Records, the label that has been Taylor Swift's home since the album Lover. Republic Records is one of the biggest record labels in the world, representing many of the most popular artists in global pop music.

Sweet Nothing Lyrics in English
[Verse 1]
I spy with my little tired eye
Tiny as a firefly
A pebble that we picked up last July
Down deep inside your pocket
We almost forgot it
Does it ever miss Wicklow sometimes?
Ooh, ooh
[Chorus]
They said the end is coming
Everyone's up to something
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings
Outside, they're push and shoving
You're in the kitchen humming
All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
[Verse 2]
On the way home
I wrote a poem
You say, "What a mind"
This happens all the time
Ooh, ooh
[Chorus]
They said the end is coming
Everyone's up to something
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings
Outside, they're push and shoving
You're in the kitchen humming
All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
[Bridge]
Industry disruptors and soul deconstructors
And smooth-talking hucksters out glad-handing each other
And the voices that implore, "You should be doing more"
To you, I can admit that I'm just too soft for all of it
Ooh
[Chorus]
They said the end is coming
Everyone's up to something
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings
Outside, they're push and shoving
You're in the kitchen humming
All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
[Outro]
They said the end is coming (They said the end is coming)
Everyone's up to something (Everyone's up to something)
I find myself running home to your sweet nothings
Outside, they're push and shoving (Outside, they're push and shoving)
You're in the kitchen humming (You're in the kitchen humming)
All that you ever wanted from me was sweet nothing
Sweet Nothing Lyrics Meaning
Sweet Nothing is a love song about the shelter of a quiet, undemanding relationship. Outside, the world is loud and grasping — "industry disruptors and soul deconstructors", voices always insisting she should be doing more. At home, nothing is demanded of her at all: her partner hums in the kitchen, admires a poem she wrote on the way home, and wants only "sweet nothing" from her — soft words, presence, peace. Small keepsakes carry the emotion: a pebble picked up in Wicklow last July, still in a pocket, stands for a love held in tiny, ordinary things. Her confession that she is "just too soft for all of it" makes the song a gentle defence of tenderness in a hard, ambitious world.
