Sonu Nigam - Zindagi Lyrics | Ardh

Introduction

"Zindagi" is a soulful and deeply emotional Hindi song from the 2022 film Ardh, sung by the legendary Sonu Nigam. With music composed by Palaash Muchhal and heartfelt lyrics written by Kunaal Vermaa, the song is a moving conversation with life itself — a plea to destiny to finally keep its promise of happiness. On screen, it features Rajpal Yadav and Rubina Dilaik. On this page you will find the complete Zindagi lyrics in Hindi (Devanagari), Roman Hindi and English translation, the official music video, full song details and the meaning of the song, explained in simple words.

The Song

Zindagi is built around one simple but powerful idea: life had promised happiness, and the singer is still waiting for that promise to be kept. The refrain — "Laayegi tu khushi yeh kaha tha, ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada" — returns again and again like a question life refuses to answer. The verses deepen the emotion: the journey is half over, the face carries many faces, and one life holds two different characters. Sonu Nigam's tender, aching delivery turns these lines into a quiet confession that almost every listener can relate to.

The Artist

Sonu Nigam is one of the most loved and versatile playback singers in Indian music, admired for his flawless control and emotional depth across decades of Bollywood hits. Kunaal Vermaa, the lyricist, is known for writing simple, honest words that stay with the listener, and composer Palaash Muchhal — who has also directed the film Ardh — gives the song a soft, melancholic melody that perfectly matches its theme.

Zindagi Lyrics in Roman Hindi

Laayegi tu khushi yeh kaha tha

Ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada

Layegi tu khushi yeh kaha tha

Ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada

Tune jo bhi diya raasta main chala

Ho gaya hai safar ab to aadha

Tune jo bhi diya raasta main chala

Ho gaya hai safar ab to aadha

Aayega kab woh din yeh bata ja

Ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada

Layegi tu khushi yeh kaha tha

Ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada

Chehre kayi hain chehre pe mere

Naa jane mera hai kaun sa

Ho chehre kayi hain chehre pe mere

Naa jane mera hai kaun sa

Ek zindagi hai kirdaar hai do

Kisko jiyun main kar faisla

Jee raha hoon jo mera khwaab na tha

Ab nibha le zindagi tera vaada

Layegi tu khushi, haan haan

Zindagi Lyrics English Translation

You had said that you will bring happiness

Now keep your promise, O life

You had said that you will bring happiness

Now keep your promise, O life

Whatever path you gave me, I walked upon it

And now this journey is already half over

Whatever path you gave me, I walked upon it

And now this journey is already half over

Tell me, when will that day finally come?

Now keep your promise, O life

You had said that you will bring happiness

Now keep your promise, O life

There are so many faces upon my face

I do not even know which one is truly mine

There are so many faces upon my face

I do not even know which one is truly mine

There is only one life, but two characters to play

You decide for me — which one should I live?

I am living a life that was never my dream

Now keep your promise, O life

You will bring happiness, yes, you will

Lyrics Meaning in English

The meaning of Zindagi is a heartfelt appeal to life itself. The singer reminds life of its own promise — "you said you would bring happiness" — and asks it to finally deliver, because he has honestly walked every path life gave him and half the journey is already gone. The most touching lines describe a man who wears many faces for the world and no longer knows which face is his own: he has one life but two roles to live, and he is living a reality that was never his dream. It is the story of every struggler who keeps hoping that life will honour its promise one day — which is exactly the soul of the film Ardh.
